What the supplied pages use
Cookies are small records a browser can store for a website and send with later requests. Local storage is a separate browser mechanism that can preserve a value without automatically sending it with every request.
The supplied site scripts do not set cookies, install analytics or load advertising trackers. They can save your storage choice in local storage when you use the controls below. Basic page reading, navigation and local drafting do not require an optional tracking preference.
The preference record
The key fieldnotes-storage-preference contains either accepted or essential. It stays in the same browser and site origin until you reset it or clear site data. It does not contain your identity or message draft and is not sent by the site's JavaScript.
Both choices leave optional tracking disabled because none is installed. Accept records your selection; it does not activate a hidden service. Essential Only records a restrictive preference. Future additions would require a fresh and accurate explanation rather than relying on this notice.
Preference controls

Other technical mechanisms
The menu, scroll reveals and draft tool use temporary page state. The draft is not saved to local storage. Copying uses the Clipboard API after a button press; downloading creates a plain-text file after a button press.
Hosting infrastructure may use technical cookies or security mechanisms outside the supplied page code. This static implementation does not establish their configuration. Any deployment-added services should be documented with their actual purpose and retention.
Changing your choice
Use these controls again at any time through the Cookies link in every footer. You can also delete the record through your browser's site-data settings. Blocking storage does not prevent reading the guides, although a choice cannot persist when the browser refuses storage.
